In this photoshop tutorial we will learn how to design Christmas balls wallpaper.
Inspired from Vector Illustration of three Christmas Balls by Ann Triling.
Create a new file (File>New) of 1280×1024 px and 72 dpi.
Using the Rectangle Tool (U), try to represent the background of the picture to be.

Set the next indicated parameters for on the last made layer by making a mouse click on the layer on the layers’ palette. Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Next represent a kind of plane on the bottom part of the picture, applying the same tool.

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Inner Glow

Using the Pen Tool (P) and the Convert Point Tool, draw a small ribbon like that one from below:

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Stroke

Gradient’s parameters:

Represent one more ribbon, applying the previous tools (Pen Tool (P) and the Convert Point Tool).

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Stroke

Gradient’s parameters:

Applying the Ellipse Tool (U), it’s possible to represent the primary layer belonging to a fir tree ball.

The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Using the same instrument, represent the next layer belonging to the same ball, the layer having the color #4472FC

Represent the next layer of the fir tree toy. For the beginning select the Ellipse Tool (U) and then the Convert Point Tool that will be helpful in changing the element’s tops. The layer has the color #092894

Applying the described above method, try to represent the next layer belonging to the same toy.

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Using the Pen Tool (P) and the Convert Point Tool, it’s possible to draw the shadow on the right top. Choose the color #152C8A

Next represent the top part of the ball, applying the Rectangle Tool (U) and the color #08258D

Select again the Pen Tool (P) to draw the top part of the fir tree ball. Its shape may be corrected with the Convert Point Tool.

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Drop Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

Next select the Ellipse Tool (U) and the Convert Point Tool to represent the wire ring on the ball, reserved for the thread. This new made layer must be situated under the previous layer on the layers’ panel.

The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Drop Shadow

Blending Options>Stroke

Gradient’s parameters:

Combine in a group all the layers composing the fir tree’s ball (press Ctrl button to mark out the necessary layers and then hold on the left mouse’s button while taking the marked layers on Create a new group selection). Make two copies of the represented group and then select Free Transform option to change the copies’ sizes, placing them under the layers belonging to the blue ball. Change the parameters for the copied layers to get a red and green nuance for the copies.
The parameters for the red ball
The primary layer: Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

The next layer has the color #DA1818

Next layer has the color #AF0102

Next we have to change the top part of the ball: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

This is the color of the lateral shadow - #AE0001

The color of the top part of the ball’s attachments is #AC0500

Next we’ll change the parameters for the green ball
The primary layer: Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

The next layer has the color #2CAB02

Next layer has the color #1B6802

The parameters for the top part: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Inner Shadow

Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Gradient’s parameters:

The color of the upper shadow on the right top is #124B00

Make a copy of each ball’s group. Mark out the copy and press Ctrl+E. Do this operation with each copy. The copies may be turned over with the Free Transform selection, changing the sizes, as it is represented on the next picture. This way we’ll get a reflection.

Mark out the layer containing the reflection and make a mouse click on the bottom part of the layers’ palette on Add a Mask selection. Choosing the Gradient Tool (G) of black color, represent the semi transparency:

Selecting the Ellipse Tool (U), try to make three similar layers for shadows and after that place them under the balls’ layers. The color is white.

Apply the same parameters for the layers containing the white shadows. Fill 20%

Create a new layer on which we must insert several white dots of different sizes, placed around the ribbons. In this case we have to choose the Brush Tool (B).

Finished!
